A Special Birthday Party, Turned Fundraiser, Turned Marriage Proposal

What better way to express appreciation for self and love of others than to throw an energetic and uplifting birthday party that also doubled as a fundraiser? No better way, we think! Scroll on to read all about this very special event…

"Kyli Bingham and Bonnie Kwon decided to have a joint fundraiser event for their b-day party in lieu of asking for money through Facebook for organizations of their choice. They decided on the Immigrant Family Defense Fund, a non-profit made up of mostly parents in the Bay Area trying to help families get reunited after being held in detainment facilities. They also provide support through legal access and parent or teacher volunteers to help families throughout their case. This all came about because Bonnie happened to be sitting next to a woman, Etel, on her way back from Costa Rica earlier this year. Etel was on her way back to California after bringing a 6 year old boy back to his family in Nicaragua after being held in detainment. Bonnie talked to Etel for hours on the plane about IFDF and the stories stuck with her, so when it came time to choose a non-profit it seemed like the perfect match! Kyli and Bonnie both strongly believe in human rights as a necessity to be upheld in our social justice system and the equal treatment of all human beings and wanted to support an organization dedicated to just that.

The event was pulled together with the help of many dear friends, most of who donated their time and effort into making it a success! Simply Cocktails was our beverage/bar provider, whose bartenders donated all of their tips from the night! Event coordinators/design came from Hilary Elizabeth and Ellyette Iverson of Eji Experiences. Live music for the night was provided by Stylai Raiz and Compsui, Jake Vantiger, and Benny Ranks of King Zero. The dance floor was kept going all night from our amazing DJ Quizo. Seven Bar and Kitchen donated appetizers.

The night was made even more perfect by a surprise proposal to Kyli from her boyfriend Dave! They raised a total of $4001.46 to go directly to the Immigrant Family Defense Fund in the fight to keep families together! Thank you to all those involved!”

We can’t say it enough…We LOVE our community of kind-hearted and fun-loving friends!
